Origin



First Baptist Church Ijegun was birthed on June 12, 1983, by First Baptist Church, Mafoluku.

Pa. Moses Taiwo moved to Ijegun after he left Mafoluku and discovered that there was no Baptist Church in Ijegun as at the time and went back to First Baptist Church, Mafoluku to report the situation of things. That was what instigated First Baptist Church, Mafoluku to start a preaching station at Ijegun. The fellowship place was the sitting room of Pa. Moses Taiwo. Thirteen people were in attendance of the first service and they were Pa. Moses Taiwo, Mr. M. Akinleye, Bro. M. Adedokun, Bro. Samson Taiwo, Bro. John Taiwo, Bro. Seyi Tawio, Mr. Okunola, Mrs. Comfort Tawio, Mrs. Deborah Tawio, Sis. Nike Taiwo, Sis. Rachael Taiwo. Sis. Docas Tawio and Charles Tawio. The first sermon was delivered by Mr. M. Adedokun titled “Silver and Gold, I Have None’’. Text: Àcts 3:7 and Corinthians 6:2.


Development and Expansion


The first Sunday school teacher was Mr. M. Akinleye while Mr. T.O. Ojedokun was sent by First Baptist Church, Mafoloku as the church leader on 11-12-1983 and the first church secretary was Mr. Joseph Ogunghenleke from 1984-1986. The first treasurer was Miss Deborah Taiwo from 1983-1986.
In the year 1986, the Church relocated to a shop space at Amusa Idowu Street, Ijegun. The Church began to grow in number and faith, which prompted the relocation of the church from the shop space to a wider land space at community road, opposite Adebayo Street, Ijegun, which belonged to Mr. Ogunkunle in the year 1987. From there, the church moved to her permanent site at 56 and 57 Olabisi Nana Street, jegun, Lagos state.
First Baptist Church, Ijegun was organized by Rev. J.A Adeleke of First Baptist Church, Mafoluku on the 10th of June, 1993. After which the church had an appreciable number of church members and functioning departments like Youth, WMU( Women Mission Union), MMU( Men Mission Union), Sunday School, Choir and Children departments. Ibukun Oluwa [Okunin ] , Ore-Ofe and Itesiwaju societies were formed in 1995. Currently the number of department has increased greatly and more societies has been formed.

Church Ministers

 

The first Pastor of First Baptist Church, Ijegun was late Rev’d S.I Olaotan. He became the first pastor of the church on 1st July, 1990. The church grew to a certain level and work became enormous, therefore, Pastor P.O Ogunrinde (now Rev’d) was called to be the associate pastor in January ,2005. After the retirement of Rev’d S. I Olaotan on 5th October, 2012, Rev’d P.O Ogunrinde became the under- Shepherd of the church In October, 2012 and Rev. S. A Adeola associate pastor that very year
